Authorities are seeking the public's help to identify a man who they suspect was hit and killed by a vehicle early Thursday in Box Elder.

The man was found lying dead in the median on Highway 1416 near Gumbo Drive at around 3:22 a.m., according to a news release from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office.

An autopsy was conducted, and preliminary findings show that the man's death is consistent with multiple blunt force trauma. He was described as in his late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches, 160 pounds with dark hair, and possibly of Native American descent. He was wearing several layers of dark clothing and a blue backpack.

"Investigators are tracking down leads on the vehicle and possible driver involved in the incident," the release said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call investigator Jesse Huschle at 394-6115.
