It goes without saying that Ruth Cherry has a great name. Her outfit isn’t half bad, either.
Cherry, of San Benito, Texas, rode with her husband, Joe Cherry, to Sturgis. The route, though, was anything but straight.
Beginning in San Benito, the Cherrys made stops in Carlsbad, Calif.; Hermosa, Colo.; Moab, Utah; Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Yellowstone National Park; Glacier National Park in Montana; Greybull, Wyo.; and rode through Big Horn National Forest before arriving in Sturgis. Estimating the trip at between 4,000 and 5,000 miles, it took about two weeks for them to arrive at their sixth Sturgis rally. Since then, there hasn’t been much time to kick back and appreciate it all yet, either. They’ve tackled Iron Mountain Road, Custer State Park and its Wildlife Loop Road, Needles Highway and Spearfish Canyon in the past couple of days.
“We never just come to Sturigs,” Cherry said. “We always do something. There’s so much to see here.”
With so many miles behind them, they’ll be happy to ride straight back to Texas when the rally ends. It’s just a short, 1,500-mile ride away.
