Happy Birthday, Mr. Krankka.

Don Krankka turns 48 today, and he says attending the Sturgis motorcycle rally for the first time makes for a pretty good birthday trip.

"It was on my bucket list," he said of attending the rally.

He and his wife of 25 years, Theresa, sat just outside the Harley-Davidson Rally Point area enjoying Thursday's mild temperatures and taking in the sights and sounds of the 77th rally. The Krankkas made the trip from St. Charles, Mo., also marking their first trip to South Dakota.

It was hard for Don to pick a favorite part of the rally, but the Krankkas said it has probably been seeing the sights, at the rally and around the area — including Mount Rushmore, of course.

"It's kind of overwhelming, to be honest," Don said of the rally.

Don, who has been riding motorcycles since he was 10, said he grew up hearing about the rally. Now that he's been to the event, he definitely wants to come back. It could even become an annual tradition.

"It's just a lot to see in one week," he said.
