For $500, Fox News fans will have the chance to shake hands with Bill O'Reilly and comedian Dennis Miller when they perform on July 25 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The duo's "Bolder and Fresher Tour," which since 2011 has been traveling the country, will be making its first stop in South Dakota when it comes to Rapid City. Regular ticket sales started Wednesday and the least expensive option is $67.50 for a balcony seat.
O'Reilly is best-known as host to the "O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News. He also has written books like the recently released "Killing Jesus: A History" and "Culture Warrior," which was published in 2006.
Miller, who has been spoofing the news since at least the 1980s when he anchored "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update, now hosts a radio talk show and makes regular appearances on the "O'Reilly Factor" for a segment called Miller Time, where the conservative commentators discuss current topics.
It is that feature that inspired the pair's traveling talk show.
"When Dennis does his spots, O'Reilly questions him about various issues in the news and things going on in popular culture," Paul Shefrin, the publicist for Miller, said of the tour's shows.
Having worked together for a number of years during "Miller Time," the tour is essentially a live rendition of the two's on-air dialog.
"Dennis has been doing the spot on O'Reilly's show for years now, four or five years," Shefrin said. "There's a certain chemistry between them that Bill likes and he said: 'Hey, why don't we go on the road together.' It's been a very successful show for the past few years."
Event promoters couldn't explain exactly why smaller venues like Rapid City or Fargo are chosen, but Shefrin said the tour has predominately stopped in cities of similar size.
"Most of the tour has been in venues, give or take, approximately that size," he said. "There's been some larger, some smaller. For instance, they're playing Pittsburgh. That's a larger venue. They're playing Honolulu. That's a smaller venue than this. The next night they're playing in Fargo, so obviously routing comes into play."
O'Reilly and Miller will perform at Barnett Arena, which can seat up to 10,400. The show, however, will be limited to half of the arena to seat approximately a third of that capacity.
"So, they will cut the arena in half and have a curtain behind them," Civic Center General Manager Brian Maliske said. "There will be seating for approximately 3,500."
Meet-and-greet tickets with VIP front-row seats to the show cost $500. Special floor seats are available at $127.50, and balcony seats are $67.50.
