BELLE FOURCHE | A convenience store clerk wielding a stick sent an attempted robber fleeing into the early Saturday morning hours in Belle Fourche.

Police said they responded to RanchMart on U.S. Highway 85 after a report of an attempted robbery.

Police Chief Rob Hansen said they were still looking for the suspect at midday Saturday and would appreciate help from the public to find him.

Photos of the male suspect were taken by a store surveillance camera. They show the suspect as a man wearing a light green hooded sweatshirt, light colored blue jeans, black shoes and a wool ski mask.

The individual is believed to be in his 20s and about five feet, nine or ten inches tall, and of average weight.

According to police reports, the suspect entered the store at about 1:25 a.m. Saturday and demanded that the clerk put money into a bag he had placed on the counter. When the clerk refused, the attempted robber tried to get behind the counter but fled after the clerk threatened him with a stick.

Belle Fourche Police ask that anyone having information on the incident contact them at 605-892-4354.
