BELLE FOURCHE - Fireworks, entertainment and retailers remaining open until 8 p.m. are features of the Light Up the Night Christmas season startup Friday, Dec. 2, 2011that's still in planning by the Center of the Nation Business Association.
Stacey Raisanen, who is heading up the project, said the Friday evening is a return to a less formal season kickoff with cash drawings, fun and fireworks.
The event is a replacement for the Parade of Lights that traditionally had kicked off the Christmas season, but was cancelled this year due to sponsorship funding cuts and overall support. The Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce had organized the annual event, but a spokesman noted that it was one of the few chambers that had the parade as a project to organize through the fall.
The business decorating contest sponsored by CONBA is based on most creative use of lights.
Raisanen said planning also includes having live entertainment in many of the retail businesses.
Restaurants will have family meal deals and the Tri-State Museum will have their gingerbread house competition judged and on display. The first drawing for cash prizes will be at 8 p.m. The CONBA cash drawings will continue Dec. 9, 16 and 22.
Fireworks start to fly at 8:15 p.m.
Business lighting contest winners should be announced by the Light Up the Night evening.
