It was a two-day outdoor extravaganza with a gun show and gear swap and awards for men, women and youth in the eight annual Big Buck Contest Friday and Saturday in Spearfish.

Winners from all over the area were on hand Saturday night for trophy presentations.

The competition began in Marc Casavan's garage as a bit of fun for customers at Mark's Old School Barber Shop in Spearfish he worked with his father. The different spellings of father and son are as correct as their interest in hunting and outdoor sports in the Northern Hills.

Scoring for this year's harvest was handled at a table in the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center as booths for the gun show were being dismantled.

Overall, Casavan said, well over 1,000 people were at the two-day celebration of outdoor and shooting sports.
