Belle Fourche, Newell and Butte County non-profit groups are being reminded that the deadline is getting very close for applications to the First Interstate Greater Belle Fourche Foundation funding for programs in the city and county.
The deadline for applications is Nov. 15.
Funds from the foundation have gone to a wide range of adult and youth programs that otherwise would have less financial support in Belle Fourche, Newell and for countywide nonprofit programs.
“It does have to be a nonprofit 501c3 program or otherwise be qualified as a nonprofit to qualify,” he said.
The Belle Fourche Fire Department and the Belle Fourche Area Community Center are examples of municipal divisions that have had programs enhanced by the foundation.
The foundation was formed as the First Western Greater Belle Fourche Foundation, the name reflects the purchase of the First Western banking group by First Interstate.
It was begun as a challenge by the bank to the community in order to build a significant amount of cash to help support local programs just from the interest on the main fund.
The foundation has more than $200,000 invested through the South Dakota Community Foundation. Each year interest from that account can be divided among qualifying local organizations who applied and were approved by a local board.
The program so far has given away more than $200,000.
