PIERRE - William Komes, 72, of Pierre, passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 12, 2017.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Isburg Funeral Chapel, Pierre. Burial will be held in the spring at Black Hills National Cemetery.

William "Willie" John Komes was born at Sturgis on July 25, 1944, to Harry and Rose (Pauley) Komes.
Willie grew up on the family farm/ranch northeast of Sturgis and attended Meyer school 1/2 mile west of home for the first eight grades. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1962 and went on to a year of school at SDSM&T in Rapid City.
In 1963, he began working for the State of SD out of the Sturgis residency where he held several different positions.
In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was trained as a physical therapist. He served his county at Fort Lenard Wood, MO: Fort Sam Houston, TX: Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC: Fort Campbell, KY: Fort McPherson, GA: He was discharged in 1967 and went back to work at the Sturgis residency.
In 1970, he moved to Pierre where he was trained to be one of the first computer programmers for the State of South Dakota.
Willie retired in 2000 from the state and started his second career as truck driver. He quit due to health reasons. He still continued to deliver reminders to the post offices in several communities.
Willie was known for his skill at pool and his love of classic cars. He had the kind of sense of humor that could get anyone smiling. He was a kind, generous, and friendly man. He was a beloved father, step-father, grandfather, husband, and friend.
Willie was fortunate to have been stepfather to Amanda Hunsley, Teela Pitlick , Eric Hunsley, Rad Hunsley, Michelle Faw, and Regina Faw. He leaves behind the sad hearts of so many including his wife Tamara Komes (Faw), his son, Scott Komes, his daughter-in-law, Heidi Komes (Popham), his grandson, Kody Komes, his sister, Julie Galutza, his step-children, step grandchildren and his multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Troy.
