Butte County dispatchers in Belle Fourche recently hosted youngsters from the Step By Step Preschool recently to show their computer equipment and explain how even the youngest folks can use 911 to get help in emergencies.

The kids had an unexpected example of what happens in the center when there's a 911 call.

A warning alarm that a 911 call was incoming quickly brought the off-duty dispatchers and the school's teachers to move the kids into the Butte County Courthouse basement hallway while the on duty dispatchers took the call.

Head Dispatcher Dallas Ford said that school and organization tours can be arranged by calling the center.

The center recently celebrated an open house during Telecommunications Week April 14 through 20, but Ford said that arrangements can be made to show the center for organizations and school classes.
