SPEARFISH | Black Hills State University students are being challenged to create marketing concepts using the University’s new tagline ‘Where Anything is Possible’ in a campus-wide contest. The winning entry has the possibility of being shown regionally during the Super Bowl or being placed on a billboard.

“BHSU is a place where dreams become realities; where anything is possible,” said BHSU President Tom Jackson, Jr. “We have brilliant students and we’re challenging to them to create a fun and innovative campaign. We look forward to seeing their creativity through this contest.”

Jackson said the University expects entries from students in a wide variety of academic areas.

“Our business program, which recently earned AACSB accreditation, is in the top five percent in the world. In addition to business students, I expect we’ll get excellent entries from students in our mass communication, English, art, psychology, education and a variety of other academic programs. Students at BHSU have shown they have the knowledge, creativity, drive, ability, and savvy to succeed,” he said.

Corinne Hansen, director of University and Community Relations, noted that collaborative entries from groups of up to four students are encouraged but that individual entries are also accepted.

“I’m excited to see what our students will create. When we first started talking about our new tagline, ‘Where Anything is Possible,’ it really resonated with students and they were enthusiastic about sharing their ideas and suggestions to creatively present that concept. We decided a contest would be a great way to involve students. After all, who knows BHSU better than BHSU students,” Hansen said.

The deadline for entries has been extended to Jan. 25th and winners will be announced the following week. In addition to a possible Super Bowl ad appearance, winning ads, videos, or concepts will be showcased at University events, on the BHSU webpage, and may become the official BHSU marketing campaign.

NewsCenter 1, the NBC affiliate in Rapid City, has agreed to be a sponsor of the contest and BHSU has invited one of their anchors, Anya Mueller, a BHSU graduate, to emcee the contest awards ceremony. Lamar Advertising Company has also agreed to donate billboard space for a student design. The University Bookstore has agreed to donate gift certificates for prizes, and the University is seeking donations for additional prizes.
