The 94th annual Black Hills Roundup, the Belle Fourche signature event of rodeo, reunions and Independence Day celebration, is under way.
This year it's also a celebration of 50 years of Miss Rodeo South Dakota during the Roundup and 25 years of top PRCA rodeo action staged by Hank and Lori Franzen's Powder River Rodeos.
Activity began Tuesday with the Fifth Annual Black Hills Roundup Invitational Golf Tournament and the 50th Anniversary Miss Rodeo South Dakota style show at the Belle Fourche Area Community Center.
Wednesday action opened with 8 a.m. steer roping at the Roundup Grounds. The 4th annual Cattle Drive down State Street, the traditional Belle Fourche main business district, is at 3 p.m.

Dancing in the dust follows the ranch rodeo with Ruckus playing at the small stage behind the grandstands.

It's "Fireworks Friday" July 5 with the area's largest fireworks show following the rodeo. Rodeo attendees have front row seats, but the display can be seen from high spots all over Belle Fourche. The Belle Fourche Cowboy Band plays on the Library lawn overlooking the Roundup Grounds prior to the display.
Saturday, July 6, events open at 4:30 p.m. with a unique Roundup event: Stars of the Rodeo Unite.
Four-time world champion bareback rider Marvin Garrett hosts three top rodeo roughstock riders who will tell their perspective on the rodeo road - a perspective seldom heard except by close friends and family.
It's free on the stage behind the rodeo grandstands. People can bring their own lawn chairs to hear the riders and Alzada, Mont., cowboy singer Jack Owen tell tales of ranch life and rodeo.
Saturday's final PRCA rodeo performance will feature a halftime ranch rodeo bronc championship. The top four ranch rodeo cowboy bronc riders will chute out for cash and the Delane Nixon Memorial championship buckle.
