Jayne (White) Todd passed away in her Carefree, Ariz., home Feb. 5, 2018, with family at her side. Jayne was born in 1955 on Christmas Eve in Chadron, along with twin brother Jim. She attended elementary and high school in Chadron and developed many life-long friendships. She moved to Phoenix in 1976 with special friend Virginia (Horse) Salisbury, and met her husband, Larry in 1979; they had grown up 50 miles apart in western Nebraska but fate brought them together in the Arizona desert they both loved. Larry’s mining career soon took them to homes in Nevada, Yuma, Ariz.; Oroville, Wash.; Safford, Ariz.; Silver City, N.M. and a seven-year South American adventure in Bolivia, Peru, and Chile. They moved to Carefree, Ariz., in 2001, where Jayne began treatment for neuroendocrine cancer, which ultimately contributed to her death, but never took her LIFE.
Jayne worked in a variety of settings: a reporter for the Chadron Record, handling customer complaints at Ramada Inn’s corporate office, a UPS driver in Nevada, and a secretary and assistant registrar at colleges in Yuma, Silver City, and Safford. She developed a passion for community college education and obtained an associates degree from Arizona Western College in Yuma and a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. Jayne learned to speak Spanish in South America and nurtured friendships wherever she went; she loved keeping up with friends and classmates at reunions and on Facebook. She was fun loving and loved to share stories about adventures with travel and antics with high school friends. Jayne never let her battle with cancer stop her from living life to the fullest and looking at each day with a smile and unrelenting positive attitude. She loved Chadron State Park, the Pine Ridge, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, the San Juan mountains of Colorado and the exotic sites of South America.
Jayne is survived by her husband Larry Todd of Carefree, Ariz.; sister Jackie White of Englewood, Colo.; brother Jim White (Liz) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and nephew Cadet James White of West Point, N.Y. She is also survived by step-father Marvin Bone (Jennie) of Englewood, Colo.; sister-in-law Linda Thurman (Jeff) of Ashland; brother-in-law Wayne Todd of Warren, Ore.; mother-in-law Dorothy Todd of Ashland, and nieces and nephews that made her laugh and love dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Betty (White) Bone and Jack White.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is being planned for Sunday, May 27, 2018, in the Chadron area for her dear friends from Chadron, Harrison, and surrounding area. Details are pending. Jayne and her family caregivers benefitted tremendously from hospice care in her final days at home. In lieu of gifts or flowers, please consider a donation to a local hospice in your area in Jayne’s memory.
