Katie Blaylock, 87, of Chadron, died Nov. 21, 2017, at the Chadron Community Hospital.
She was born Nov. 12, 1930, to Ethel and Dominic Matrisciano. She grew up on her family ranch near Ashby with five brothers and three sisters. Katie graduated valedictorian from Ashby High School at age 16 and attended Chadron State College during the summer session of 1947, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught school full-time during the 1947-48 school year.
On June 13, 1948, she married Marvin L. Blaylock in the Congregational Church in Ashby. The couple lived in Fort Collins, Colo., and Dinosaur, Colo., before moving to Chadron in 1965 when they purchased Maple Street Court. In 1972, the couple also opened the In and Out Repair Shop in Chadron. Katie was the co-owner and operator of both businesses until 1986 when Marvin passed away. Katie continued to own and operate the Maple Street Court until her death last week.
Katie was a loving wife and mother of four children. She was devoted to her church where she was involved in teaching Sunday School, Confirmation class, and Bible Studies. She served as church secretary at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chadron for 20 years and served as the organist for 41 years.
She took great pleasure in her family and friends. She loved playing the piano and organ and was considered a very good bridge player. Katie was a wonderful cook and was well known for her bread and homemade cinnamon rolls.
Katie is survived by Linda and Jay Jacobsen, David and Connie (Percy) Blaylock, John and Diana (Moeller) Blaylock, and Julie and Tom Pfister, Clint Matrisciano of Roseville, Calif., and Robert Matrisciano of Mission Texas, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services are being handled by Chamberlain Mortuary. Funeral services were Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Morgan, Andrew Pfister, Benjamin Pfister, Anthony Pfister, Adam Blaylock and Scott Young.
