There is still snow on the ground, and winter is expected to stick around awhile longer in the northern Panhandle, but Chadron’s thoughts are already turning to swimming.
That’s because the new Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center is nearing completion and expected to be open soon. If you can’t wait to see the new facility, there’s good news. Anyone who contributes to the Quarters for Aquatics campaign is invited to a VIP tour Feb. 12 from 3-5 p.m.
Quarters for Aquatics is a fundraiser sponsored by the Chadron Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions and Knights of Columbus clubs as a way to support the new facility. The clubs have spent the last several months asking individuals to save their loose change in personal banks to be contributed toward the new facility. The fundraiser is a friendly competition between the four clubs (Go Rotary!).
Anyone who has already donated personal banks filled with change to the Quarters for Aquatics campaign is invited to the VIP tour. If you still have personal banks at home to donate bring them to the Aquatics and Wellness Center that day for admission to the tour.
Each club is also selling raffle tickets as part of the fundraiser through Feb. 9. Each ticket is $1 or $20 for 25 tickets. There are two separate raffles: Blue and Red. The Blue raffle grand prize is an annual pass to the aquatics center, while the second prize winner will be the first person to go down the slide. Third-11th prizes will also get a chance to go down the slide. (All of the Blue raffle tickets are transferrable.)
The Red raffle allows the purchaser to nominate a dignitary to make a trip down the slide. The dignitary with the most nominations will be the winner.
All of the slide winners will be notified prior to Feb. 12 and will try out the slide during the VIP tour.
Tickets are available from members of the four clubs or at the Chadron Chamber of Commerce, Morford’s Decorating and The Chadron Record.
