A mountain lion believed to have killed two goats near Chadron has been euthanized.
A Dawes County landowner contacted Nebraska Game and Parks last week after finding the carcasses of two goats. Game and Parks biologists determined, based on the condition of the carcasses and nearby signs of mountain lion, that the goats were killed by a cougar.
A Game and Parks press release said agency officials and the landowner worked together to identify and kill the mountain lion, following the G&P’s Mountain Lion Response Plan. The agency is also working to help the landowner reduce chances of a similar event in the future.
This is the third confirmed instance of livestock depredation in the state in modern history.
