A former Sheridan County attorney is among the group of three nominees forwarded to Gov. Pete Ricketts to fill the Supreme Court vacancy for the Sixth Judicial District.
John Freudenberg, who served as Sheridan County Attorney in 2003, along with Ryan Carson of Gibbon and James Doyle, IV, of Lexington are seeking the judicial vacancy due to the death of Judge John Wright.
Freudenberg, 48, is a Chadron State College graduate, where he played on the Eagles’ basketball team, and a University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law graduate. He spent time in the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s office before relocating to Sheridan County and joining the Smith and King Law Firm. He joined the state attorney general’s office in 2006 and eventually became chief of the criminal bureau.
Joe Stecher of Harrison also applied for the vacancy.
