Chadron State senior Kalli Feddersen scored 27 points to match her career high and freshman Taryn Foxen tallied 18 points to reach double figures for the first time in her young career, but Adams State hung on for an 87-78 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win last Saturday night in Alamosa.

The Eagles also were overwhelmed by No. 15 ranked Fort Lewis 86-48 on Friday afternoon in Durango.

Chadron State led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter at Adams State, but the second period spelled the difference. That’s when the Grizzlies outscored the visitors 26-13 to take a 41-27 halftime lead.

The Eagles cut the margin to five points twice in the fourth quarter on 3-pointers by Feddersen, but Adams State widened the gap to 11 points with 4 ½ minutes remaining and hung on to secure the victory.

Feddersen continually took the ball to the basket, drew fouls and was 17 of 20 from the free throw line. Both totals are second on the Eagles’ all-time single-game chart to Kattie Ranta’s 20 of 24 performance from the line against Adams State in 2012-13.

Feddersen also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to give her five double-doubles this season.

At the season’s mid-point, the Rawlins, Wyo., product is 87 of 107 (81.3 percent) from the charity stripe, giving her 26 more free throws made and 38 more shots taken than any other player in the conference. She also ranks fifth in both scoring (13.9 points) and rebounding (8.4).

Foxen, a 2107 graduate of Cherokee Trail High at Aurora, Colo., had a previous high of seven points, but finished with 18 and also came up with four steals against the Grizzlies. Senior Letty Rodriguez added 11 points for CSC, but the Eagles shot just 30.8 percent from the field, compared to Adams State’s 47.2 percent, including 17 of 34 for 55 percent in the second half.

Led by Feddersen’s output, the Eagles outscored the hosts by 23 points from the free throw line. Chadron State was 34-41 at the charity stripe and the Grizzlies 11-17. But, Adams State poured in 76 points from the field and CSC 44.

Adams State’s top scorer was freshman Stephanie Ruiz with 16 points. Senior Macy Meyers tallied 14, junior Brooke Neal 13 and two more Grizzlies added 11 apiece.

CSC coach Janet Raymer said the Eagles played hard and played together well, but let Adams State get too many layups early in the game.

Both teams closed out the Old Year 1-7 in the RMAC while CSC is 3-11 overall and Adams State is 3-7.

In the first game of the trip, it was all Fort Lewis, now 13-1 for the season and 7-1 in the RMAC.

The Skyhawks took a 22-8 first quarter lead and were on top 47-25 at halftime. The hosts outscored CSC by only 15-13 in the third period, but broke loose for a 24-10 advantage in the final frame.

Fort Lewis was 33-73 from the field for 45.2 percent, sank eight treys and was 12 of 13 from the free throw line. Vivian Gray, a 5-8 freshman from Argyle, Texas, and the RMAC’s leading scorer at 17.2 points a game, paced the Skyhawks with 22. Sophomore guard Kayla Harris with 11 points was the only other FLC player to reach double figures, but six more added at least a half dozen.

Chadron State shot just 29.3 percent from the field and had 23 turnovers, 11 more than the hosts. The Skyhawks also had a 48-33 advantage off the glass.

Fedderson scored 11 points, freshman Jessica Harvey 10 and Rodriguez, who had three treys, nine for the Eagles. Feddersen and Rodriguez grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
