Clark Riesen, Jake Lemmon, and Tallon Craig placed this past weekend in Cozad, the Cardinal wrestler’s first meet of the season.

Riesen was Chadron’s highest placer, finishing third overall in the 170-pound class after being awarded a win by rule in his final match against Adams Central’s Noah Machnicki. Riesen was 3-1 at the invite and scored 16 team points.

Jake Lemmon had success in the 145-pound class but was forced to forfeit his third place match with Holdrege’s Zachary Hurlbert due to having exceeded the maximum number of allowed matches in a day.

Lemmon’s loss in the semi-finals, and battle through the consolation bracket meant that by the time he’d reached the third place match, he’d already wrestled in four matches, the maximum allowed.

Craig, competing in the 113-pound class, also finished fourth. He was defeated by Gothenburg’s Jeremy Larson by pin at the 0:54 mark of his final match.

Only Ogallala finished the invite with fewer points than Chadron, scoring 45 to the Cardinals 48. Lexington took the title with 157.5 points, trailed by Wahoo with 146.

Chadron travels to Gordon-Rushville for their triangular on Thursday, and again on Saturday for the Invite.
