After picking up big wins over Alliance at home last Friday night, both Chadron High basketball teams will be on the road twice this weekend, visiting Gering on Friday night and Gordon-Rushville on Saturday night.
The Chadron girls are 6-6 and the boys are 7-5. Both have already played this weekend’s opponents earlier this season with mixed results.
Gering edged the Chadron boys 45-44 in the second round of the Western Conference Tournament to open the season, but the Cardinals nipped the Bulldogs 58-55 at home on Dec. 16, despite the fact that Gering’s Jake Rocheleau hit five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points.
In between those games, the Gordon-Rushville boys topped the Cards 42-33 in Chadron.
The Lady Cardinals beat the Gordon-Rushville 55-43, even though the Mustangs’ Gracey Perez netted six treys and scored 22 points. During their Dec. 16 visit to Chadron, the Gering girls won 57-42 behind Paige Lopez’s 20 points that included four triples.
The Gering girls are 7-7 and the boys 7-6. Entering games at Alliance on Tuesday night, the Gordon-Rushville girls were 8-6 and the boys 11-2, best in the Panhandle.
Both G-R quintets will host Cody-Kilgore on Friday night.
