The Sioux County girls’ basketball team started their season off strong last Thursday, defeating Crawford 34-25.

The Warriors excelled in the odd quarters, doubling the Rams in both the first and third, but were outscored 6-4 in the second, and 8-6 in the fourth.

Sioux County was led in scoring by Angela Johnson who had ten points on the night. The senior had three field-goals, one trey, and was one for two at the line. She also led the Rams with four steals.

Bailey Oetken chipped in offensively with six points and led the Warriors with eight rebounds. Kalen Lotton led in defensive rebounds with four, and also added two offensive rebounds. Lotton also shot three of four at the line.

Rams' scoring was led by junior Joclyn Staman who had nine points on three treys, and Kelsey Tighe, who had eight points and sank two of her seven shots from the line.

The Warriors took to the road next, travelling to Cody-Kilgore where they were defeated 43-32.

The team kept it competitive in the first quarter, scoring 14 to the Cowboys’ 19, a score that held to the end of the second quarter. But were then outscored 18-9 in the third, putting the game just out of reach.

The team travelled to Garden County Tuesday night, but results were not in at the time of publication. The Warriors also play Friday in Minatare, tip off at 4 p.m.
