RAPID CITY – The Hot Springs Bison Cheer Squad finished the season this past weekend performing at the State Meet at Rapid City Stevens High School, where they placed ninth in the Small Squad Class “A” competition with 169.5 points, which also put them 15th overall in Class “A.”
“The overall performance was good,” said Hot Springs head coach Janet Naasz. “The squad should be very proud of their season. It was one of the best seasons the competitive teams have had.”
Hot Springs was competing against 12 teams in the small squad and seven teams in the large squad. Arlington/Lake Preston was the winner of the small squad division with 214.5 points, followed by Platte-Geddes in second place with 211 points. Custer was the highest Black Hills school placing in the division, just one spot ahead of Hot Springs in 8th place with 175 points. Belle Fourche meanwhile finished in sixth place of the Large Squad division with 192.5 points.
Sioux Valley was the overall Class “A” champion with 261 points, followed by Dakota Valley as the state runner-up with 228.5 points. Both competed in the Large Squad group.
“We are a young team with only two seniors on the squad,” said Coach Naasz. “The upcoming years they will become better and better.
“From last week’s third place finish in the Black Hills Conference, to the ninth place finish in State, the team’s season was great. All the members did their part in the competitions and that is all a coach can ask,” Naasz added. “I would like to thank everyone that came to the State competition; it was great to have the support for the squad.”
