The 2nd Annual Climb Hot Springs outdoor stair climbing event is coming to the city Sept. 23.

HOT SPRINGS – Runners, walkers, and sightseers are invited to Climb Hot Springs, Saturday, Sept. 23.

The event is a competitive race to enjoy Hot Springs’ staircases, scenic views of the historic sandstone architecture and natural landscapes.

Competitors at all levels have their choice of two courses:

•A challenging 7 mile race featuring five staircases.

•A 3-mile course with two staircases.

But don’t worry it isn’t all uphill from there. Both routes incorporate the level Freedom Trail following Fall River through Centennial Park.

Race Director Curt Lout describes the trend toward stair climbing as “the new marathon” with at least 50 percent more calorie burn than level running and walking and good cross-training to strengthen muscle groups for other sports like cycling.

Most stair climbs are held in high rise stairwells in major cities. However, Hot Springs event is unique.
