Garrett Heil and Kody Hagen both placed sixth this weekend in the SDHSAA state wrestling championships in Sioux Falls.
Heil competed at 182 pounds and ended his season with a 38-10 record. Hagen was at 145 and ended his season 41-11.
Head coach, Ray Ringstmeyer, said this of the two, "Kody and Garrett finish off a great season. I am happy for them, they worked hard for this. Kody showed a lot of heart finishing the season on a pretty bad knee, and Garrett was right in the fight with the eventual state champion."
Other Bison competing at the championships were Marcus Harkless(195 pounds, 30-17), Caleb Maciejewski(220 pounds, 26-25) and Keaton Bissonnette(120 pounds, 31-24).
Ringstmeyer went on to say, "Caleb came on strong at the end of the season. As only a sophomore, I am excited for the next two years. Keaton and Marcus ran into some pretty tough kids first two rounds."
He added that he believes the Bison's ceiling is higher, "As far as the season overall I feel we didn’t accomplish what we could have. We had such a promising group coming back after last season. Our home tournament back in December was an indicator of what we could do. We ran into some unfortunate injuries and there’s not much we can do about that. What's nice about this group we had at state is we get all of them back. This state tourney experience is valuable."
Keep an eye on the Bison wrestlers to make some big moves next year.
