Chautauqua Artisans Marketplace

Chautauqua Artisans Marketplace is very excited to announce our next art show from April 17th through May 25th.  We will showcase 'Small Quilts' from numerous quilters in & around our area.  Please stop in and see these marvelous creations. Chautauqua Craftsmen & Artisans of the Black Hills is a 501c3 non profit organization supporting the arts and art education.

Senior Center

This week at the Hot Springs Senior Center we have Bingo, Saturday May 12 at 1pm. Everyone is welcome. Monthly board meeting on Thursday May 10 at 8:30 am. 

Chamber of Commerce Mixer

Wednesday, May 23, 2018 Grace of the Pines Hospice will host a mixer from 4:30-6:30. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments at our new location, 145 N. Chicago Street (the old library building). 

Early Registration for Stars, Strips and Steps

May 12th is the last day to get a tee shirt with your registration in Stars, Stripes & Steps, Memorial Day (May 28) stair-climbing challenge, downtown Hot Springs. Limited to 100 participants. Choose 2 Mile Sock Hop, 269 steps, 5K Crazy Crew, 657 steps, or the gnarly Knee High Hilly Half Marathon, over 730 steps and three worthy hills. Whew!, or 605-890-1515. 

New Hours at The Mammoth Site Beginning May 15, 2018

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD Inc. is announcing its new summer hours starting May 15 through August 15, 2018.

The new hours will be 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. daily and the last tour will be at 7:00 p.m. each day.

Memorial day in Hot Springs

Hot Springs is gearing up for Memorial Day in Centennial Park. Join us from noon to 3 pm for Crazy Woman Creek Band, Boys & Girls Club Kid Zone and Mammoth Site fun for kids, plus fishing demoes by Casting Vets, ALL FREE. Or come before 11. a.m. to watch the Stars, Stripes & Steps stair climbers take off. Food and beverages will be available to purchase. Looking for an ice cream vendor or other fun ideas. Also need gifts and coupons for Stars, Stripes & Steps runners’ swag bags. Sponsors and volunteers are, of course, always welcomed with gratitude and delight. Contact or 605-890-1515. 

Black Hills Storytellers

Friday, May 11th at 7 pm at the Custer County Library , Black Hills Storytellers are set for the annual Custer evening of music and story.

This year’s theme: “Treasures, Trifles, and Tomfoolery".

Hot Springs Elementary Field Day  

May 14, 2018 Grades and Times: 3rd, 4th, and 5th will go from 9:00 – 11:00 and 1:30 – 3:00. K, 1st, and 2nd will go from 1:00 – 3:00

Closing ceremonies will be at 3:00 (football stadium)

Locations: Field across from pre-school playground, behind the stadium, and FB field

Teams: Blue team (students that have PE on Monday’s and Wednesday’s)

White team (students that have PE on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s)

Grief Support Group

Open to anyone dealing with Loss and Grief is held at the Hot Springs Public Library, 2006 Library Drive on the second Friday of every Month from 12:00 to 1:30. If Library is closed due to holiday, group will meet on third Friday.

2018 dates include: January 12th, February 9th, March 9th, April 13th, May 11th, June 8th, July 13th, August 10th, September 14th, October 12th, *November 16th,  and December 14th.

Non-Traditional Scholarship Offered

Zonta of the Southern Black Hills is offering scholarship(s) up to $1,000 for a non-traditional female student planning on attending (or currently attending) an accredited college, university or trade school.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of need, community activities and good citizenship. The Zonta Scholarship committee will conduct a personal interview with each candidate prior to making a final award decision.

Applicants should fill out an application — provided by emailing or visiting Zonta’s Facebook page at — and enclose a short essay written by the applicant, outlining her community and school activities, her employment history and future goals, including what she hopes to gain from this education. Applicants should also include what specific financial needs she has regarding her education (such as tuition, books, babysitting, travel, etc.).

Applicants must be a resident of the Southern Black Hills, a part-time student and should enclose a letter of reference from a teacher, counselor or employer and a photo of herself.

Applications may be mailed to Zonta Club of the Black Hills C/O Scholarship Committee, PO Box 368, Custer, SD 57730-0368. Applications and documents must be postmarked no later than June 30.
