HOT SPRINGS - With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, Hot Springs is gearing up for the Christmas season.
Activities kick off Friday with the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Downtown Cookie Cruise at 4 p.m. and a Journey of Lights Parade and Tree Lighting at the Visitors Center from 5:30- p.m. The parade, sponsored by Black Hills Energy, will start at the State Veterans Home and proceed down Minnekahta Avenue. Santa and Mrs. Claus will join the parade at North River Street, with the route proceeding to Jennings Avenue, onto North Chicago Street, then on to Baltimore and Sixth Streets, before returning to Jennings Avenue and back to Centennial Park and the United Churches for a complimentary soup supper and awards ceremony.
This year’s parade theme is “Celebrating 40 Years of Christmas in the Hills.” Awards be given for best representation of the theme, brightest, best horse drawn, best non-profit/religious, most creative and best business.
Continue the Christmas spirit Saturday at the Christmas in the Hills Marketplace, scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mueller Center. Get your Christmas shopping list winnowed down and support local vendors, all at the same time.
