HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Bison Athletics Hall of Fame is hoping to make Bison fans more comfortable the next time they come out and cheer on their hometown Bison athletes competing on the gridiron of Woodward Field, or racing around Dave Scott Track.
Hall of Fame committee member Brian Thies recently presented the organization’s plans to the Hot Springs School District, with hopes of the school board deciding to help fund the project, which carries a price tag of approximately $50,000, and could be implemented as soon as next fall, in time for Hot Springs’ season opener versus Tri-Valley on Saturday, Aug. 26.
A lot of money however will need to be raised between now and then, as the Hall of Fame currently has under 1/3 of the total monies needed.
Based on the quoted plans from a Minnesota-based seating company, the project would entail installing aluminum plank bench seating across the entire grandstand area at Woodward Field, divided into five different sections. The four outer sections – two on each side – would feature 16 rows of bleachers, each around 20-feet wide. The center section, which features the press box at the top and goes nearly 40-feet wide, would go 15 rows high, but the lower 10 rows would also feature powder-coated aluminum backs, painted in the school color of blue. These seats would also be numbered, to potentially provide a fundraising mechanism for the Hall of Fame or school to offer sponsored seating.
Thies said the Hall of Fame recently kicked off a fundraising campaign to solicit alumni and business donors to help fund the project.
The Hot Springs Bison Booster Club – the local nonprofit organization over which the Hall of Fame committee operates – has also set up a Paypal account on its website to make donating to the project very easy.
Potential donors are asked to go to: www.BisonBoosterClub.com/donate-online. While at the website, people can also view bios of last year’s Hot Springs Bison Athletics Hall of Fame members, and also nominate a Bison athlete for induction into the 2017 Hall of Fame class. A banquet to honor this year’s inductees will take place on homecoming weekend, Sept. 30, 2017.
The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2017.
