Competition continues tonight in Hot Springs
HOT SPRINGS – Calista Kirby, Miss Rushmore, and Heather Johnson, Miss Sioux Empire Fair, took home preliminary awards in the Talent and Swimsuit competitions, respectively, at the 2012 Miss South Dakota Pageant Wednesday night.
Kirby won the preliminary talent competition with a tumbling routine to “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. Johnson took the swimsuit title wearing a maroon two-piece.
Kirby, first runner up to Miss South Dakota Anna Simpson last year, is from Brookings, while Johnson, who was second runner up in 2012, is from Olivia, Minn.
The talent award is a $1,000 scholarship, and $200 goes to the swimsuit winner.
Preliminary competition continues tonight at the Mueller Civic Center, with final competition Saturday night and the 2012 Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen Competition Friday evening.
