Keep Hot Springs Beautiful will hold its second Electronics Recycling (and other stuff) event for 2017 on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. – 12 noon in the parking lot of Centennial Park on Garden Street.

As before, we will accept electronics such as TVs (not projector TVs), cable boxes, computers, monitors, towers, laptops, cells phones and phones; appliances such as stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and vacuums; also accept aluminum, brass, radiators, engines, catalytic converters, cast iron, steel cans, copper, lead, stainless steel, prepared iron, sheet metal, white paper (no confidential documents), magazines, catalogs, cardboard, colored office paper, newspaper and Christmas lights.

This is your chance to dispose of items responsibly.

KHSB is partnering with Pacific Steel and Recycling and our local Jim’s Service for this event.

Jim’s Service will be available to remove the Freon and this will require a charge of $15. We suggest you come earlier in the day, rather than later, to ensure that your items are accepted.

If the roll-offs fill up, we will have to shut down earlier than expected.

Please remember that Pacific Steel and Recycling has the right to refuse items.

If you plan to drop off items, KHSB kindly asks that you consider making a donation for our efforts. These events take many volunteers and strong backs.

Also, voting for the 2017 People’s Choice award for best downtown street corner pod will begin on Sept. 1 and end on Sept. 27.

Please watch for the ballot in the Hot Springs Star on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Ballots and ballot boxes can be found at the Hot Springs Star, Chamber of Commerce, Hot Springs Library, Dale’s Family Restaurant and Earth Goods.

I hope that you will take a few minutes out of your day to cast your vote for your favorite downtown street corner pod and show your appreciation for the hard work put in by the Pod Squad members.

The People’s Choice Award will be given out at our KHSB Annual Banquet.

In addition, Saturday, Sept. 30 is the deadline for Homeowner Improvement Prize (HIP) applications.

So far we have not received many applications, so we hope that many of you are waiting until the last minute to submit. Visit www.KeepHot SpringsBeautiful.org to download an application or you stop by the Hot Springs Area Chamber of Commerce in the Mueller Center to pick up an application.

Please remember that your application must include before and after photographs.

First prize will be awarded $1,000; 2nd prize, $750; and 3rd prize, $500.

Winners will be announced at the Keep Hot Springs Beautiful Annual Banquet on Nov. 4, at Red Rock River Resort.

Finally, KHSB hopes someone in the community would allow us to borrow their enclosed trailer to use for one day in April 2018. If you think you would be able to help us out, please give Beth a call at 745-4876 or send an email to spitfire@gwtc.net. Thank you!
