HOT SPRINGS - The Hot Springs Theatre will host a discussion of the movie “Only the Brave” about the Granite Mountain Hotshots, following the Saturday matinee on Nov. 18.
Bill Gabbert, a 33-year career wildland firefighter with the US Forest Service and the National Park Service, will be leading this discussion. Twenty years of Bill’s service were in Southern California, including five years as a Hotshot. His career included the training of wildland firefighters. Gabbert currently resides in Hot Springs and writes for Wild Fire Today, following wildfires throughout the United States.
This discussion is provided as a way to understand how fire behaves, the dangers of wildfire and how we learn from wildfire tragedies. Hot Springs is no stranger to wildfire. The Alabaugh Fire is still fresh in the minds of many of us. A life was lost, people were injured and many homes were lost. This is an opportunity to help us understand the dangers and stresses of fighting wildfires as well as processing our emotions around these destructive experiences.
