HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Lady Bison volleyball team pushed Class “AA” Douglas to five games last Thursday night at Case Auditorium, but in the end, came up just short of picking up their first non-tournament win of the season.

The Douglas dual was one of two Black Hills Conference matchups the Lady Bison played at home last week, as they also hosted St. Thomas More in a closely contested four-game set, which they lost 23-25, 26-24, 16-25 and 20-25.

The Douglas five-game match went back-and-forth throughout, with Hot Springs winning Games 1 and 3 by scores of 25-14 and 25-15, but losing Games 2, 4 and 5 by scores of 18-25, 15-25 and 14-16.

Senior Madison Russell was the statistical leader in both matchups versus STM and Douglas, by going 32-for-34 serving and combining for 32 kills and being a part of 10 blocks in the two matches.

“Madison has worked hard at practice all week and I changed the lineup and tried her as a outside hitter and setter,” said Hot Springs head coach Jami Klippenstein. “She really stepped up this week and worked hard in her new role in the new rotation.”

With the two losses last week, Hot Springs fell to 2-9 on the season and currently sits in sixth place in the Region 8A standings. The team has only one match this week, as they travel to Hill City on Tuesday. The Rangers are currently in seventh place in Region 8A with a 1-5 record.
