The five abused Ohio bears — Grunt, Little Bear, Lilly, Holly and Ginger — were being held Friday in quarantine cages at Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary near Spearfish.

According to sanctuary volunteer Brooke Ingalls, the biggest change for the bears will be their diet. Previously, they were fed donuts, lollipops and beer, which means they need considerable dental work. At the sanctuary, they will eat fresh fruit and vegetables.

Eventually, the bears will be allowed to live in open spaces, joining five other bears at the sanctuary.
