Five different players scored touchdowns for Rapid City Central as the Cobblers rolled to a 42-0 victory over Sturgis in the Scoopers' home opener at Woodle Field Friday.

Central tallied touchdowns on its initial two offensive series.

The Red and White marched 73 yards in eight plays on its first series. A 15-yard run by Tate Remmers culminated the drive. Carter Deming added the two-point conversion run.

After a three and out on Sturgis' first offensive series, the Cobblers drove 66 yards. A 13-yard run by Deming finished the drive.

Central held a 14-0 edge at the end of the first quarter.

With 16 seconds remaining in the half, the Cobblers' quarterback Holden Jackson reached the end zone from 24 yards out. Central held a 21-0 halftime advantage.

Jackson connected with Kyle Elder for a 44 yard touchdown aerial at the 8:20 mark of the third quarter.

The Cobblers finalized the scoring on a 9-yard run by Jordan Ladson and Jackson's 17-yard run.

The Cobblers kicker, Tate Remmers, converted four successful PATs in the contest.

"What we have been emphasizing is to get off to a quick start," said Central coach EriK Iverson. "We try to spread it around on offense and go with whoever has the hot hand."

Iverson said Sturgis' double-wing offense was a concern heading into the game.

"We were focused on being sound on our defensive gaps," he said. "The boys are excited about the shutout. Our whole defensive line did a really good job."

Central, 2-1, visits Brandon Valley in an Eastern South Dakota Conference matchup Friday.

Sturgis Brown High School coach Christ Koletzky said the Scoopers knew the Cobblers run game was going to be tough.

"We have to go back to Day 1 on some things," he said.

Defensive highlights for the Scoopers included an interception by senior linebacker Tom Shaw. Senior classmates Joel Carpenter and Cameron Brinkman each had a fumble recovery.

"They (Cobblers) really stretched us out," Koletzky said. "Our boys played harder than they did against Douglas."

The Scoopers, 1-2, visit St. Thomas More in a Black Hills Conference Mount Rushmore Division game Friday.
