Sturgis Brown boys and girls claimed a pair of second place finishes in the team competition at the Belle Fourche Invitational Cross Country meet Thursday.

Custer won the varsity boys title with 26 points. The Scoopers took runner-up honors with 48.

Daniel Burkhalter of Bison the boys 5K run in a time of 16 minutes and 44.63 seconds.

Four SBHS runners collected top 20 places. Nate Andersen led the way, taking eighth place in 19:14.49. Ethan Brenneman was 14th in 19:39.31. Alec Keffeler posted 16th place in 19:49.41. Taylor Tobias clocked 18h place in 20:02.14.

St. Thomas More topped the varsity girls team standings with 24 points. Sturgis Brown collected 40 points.

Newell's Delaney Leber was first across the finish line in the girls 5K in 21:06.68, finishing ahead of Kylee Bennett of Sturgis (21.16.89). Lia Neumiller finished eighth in 22:11.95. Molly Buchholz was 19th in 23:57.46.

Cody Cline of SBHS claimed the JV boys 5K title in 20:04.73. Tristan Permann recorded third place in 20:40.84.

Three Scooper JV girls captured top nine places. Regin Kehn finished fourth (24:48.94), Mairen McGrath, seventh (25:48.01) and Haley Ferguson, ninth, (26.24.02).

"I thought it was a good overall performance," said SBHS coach Blake Proefrock. "Belle Fourche is one of the tougher courses. I saw good efforts and improvements."

Sturgis Brown competes at the Huron Invitational Saturday.
