By the time of this publishing the people of the United States will have made their choice as to who will be the President of this great nation.
Regardless of whom is chosen, we who are called by the Name of Christ must remember that God remains in control, and the man who occupies the Oval Office for the next four years is of God's plan begun before the foundations of the Earth were laid.
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Rome, addresses this issue with these words found in Chapter 13, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
As such we of Christ's Church, over whom the Word of God represents our sole means of guidance, must make certain that we don't allow our political persuasion to corrupt our trust in God.
If you believe, as I do, that God's promise to "work all things together for the good of those who love Him, and are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28) is true, we must then in faithfulness to His Word do what it commands.
First, we must submit to that authority in as much as it does not violate God's Biblical standards. No President, no Congress, has the authority to subvert God's authority.
Secondly, we must respect the office of the Presidency and pray for whomever God places in that office. Over the past four years I have received an almost constant flood of e-mails concerning President Obama, many of them derogatory to his person. This kind of disrespect has no place in the life of anyone dedicated to Christ Jesus.
We may disagree with with a political point of view. However, we do not have any right to cast stones at anyone as to their person.
God has chosen, we must trust Him enough to trust His decisions no matter of our personal political leanings. Do you who profess His Holy Name have confidence to trust Him in all things? Will you spend the next four years demeaning whomever is President, or will you follow Christ's commands to live your lives according to His Word?
I pray that we can show our faith to a lost world by showing our trust in God, and by so doing draw others to Christ and His salvation which is God's greatest desire for all mankind.
