A woman who pleaded guilty to accidentally killing her infant daughter when she lay over the child after falling asleep drunk has been sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release.
Mona Goggleye, 32, of Pine Ridge, admitted unintentionally suffocating the 4-month-old child as they slept on the couch at home in May 2016, according to federal court records. Goggleye was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, a killing without malice.
On Oct. 3, U.S. District Court Chief Judge Jeffrey Viken sentenced her to the five days she served at the Pennington County Jail after being arrested for the offense, said defense attorney Erin Bolinger. Goggleye's other charge of felony child abuse and neglect, involving the deceased infant and another child, has been dismissed under her plea agreement with prosecutors.
