The wife of a Pine Ridge police officer has been charged by a grand jury in the shooting death of her husband in February.
Tiffany Janis, 30, is facing federal charges of second-degree murder and discharge of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence. Authorities say Janis shot her husband, 52-year-old Brian Garrett, following an argument at their home near Kyle in the early hours of Feb. 10. Garrett was then off-duty from the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
Janis’ murder charge is punishable by up to life in prison; her firearm offense, at least 10 years in prison. She is detained at the Pennington County Jail and a trial has been set for April.
