A dust storm caused a nine-vehicle collision around 7 p.m. Friday evening on I-90 near New Underwood.
The accident shut down I-90 eastbound and caused injuries that sent multiple people to the hospital, according to Sgt. Jeff Twite of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. No one was reported dead at the scene, according to Twite.
"It was a dust storm and the wind came through and the dust caused zero visibility," he said.
Two semi-trailers and seven other vehicles were involved, Twite said. The accident occurred near mile marker 75, a few miles west of New Underwood.
Law enforcement agencies were keeping the highway closed Friday night to reconstruct the accident scene. Twite said eastbound I-90 might remain closed until early Saturday morning.
