An 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a man outside an Eagle Butte bar.
A federal grand jury in Pierre on Tuesday indicted Jared Slader in the death of Lester Peneaux.
Witnesses reportedly saw Slader and the victim fight outside the Golden Rule Bar in the early morning hours of Aug. 31.
Peneaux died during surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital several hours after the fight, according to federal court documents.
Slader pleaded not guilty to the murder charge when he was arraigned Wednesday.
If convicted, Slader faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. He remains in custody.
