Beginning Tuesday, the Forest Service is waiving the day-use parking fee at boat ramps, beaches and picnic grounds at Pactola, Sheridan and Deerfield reservoirs.

"A lot of visitors think that these large developed areas charge a fee year round and that simply is not true," said Amy Ballard, recreation forester on the Mystic Ranger District. "A day pass is only needed at National Forest sites for approximately four months during the high-use summer season."

The Pactola Campground, however, is closing on Sept. 10 due to heavy logging traffic in the area.

Sheridan Lake Campground will keep 30 camping sites open during the week with an option to open more on the weekends. Camping fees are reduced to $10 per night, 60 percent of the summer seasonal rate. Toilets and garbage service will continue.
