PIERRE | South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says Republican state Rep. Patty Miller of McCook Lake has resigned her House seat for personal reasons.

Daugaard will appoint someone to fill Miller's District 16 seat, which includes all of the Union County and southern and eastern portions of Lincoln County. The governor is asking residents to nominate candidates to fill the position.

Miller has served in the state House since 2011. Her resignation is effective immediately.

Daugaard says Miller is an earnest and hard-working legislator and she'll be missed.

The governor expects to fill the vacancy by the late spring or early summer.
