SIOUX FALLS | A federal panel plans to hear arguments next week on its decision to put a temporary hold on the operating license for a proposed uranium mine near Edgemont.
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will take input on a telephone call set for May 13.
The board issued a stay last week on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission license granted in April to Powertech Uranium Corp.
It was in response to claims by the Oglala Sioux Tribe and other groups that mining activities could hurt cultural and historic sites in the Black Hills.
Powertech's project manager says the stay was not a surprise and doesn't affect the operation because the company still needs other agency approval before starting construction.
