Helen E. Amborn

RAPID CITY - Helen E. Raba Amborn, 61, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Wallace "Red" Amborn, Rapid City; a son, Jeremy Amborn, Ellsworth Air Force Base; two daughters, Heidi Rector, Wauwatosa, Wis., and Ericka Amborn, Rapid City; five grandchildren; seven sisters, Arlene Marty and Cecelia Adams, both of Rapid City, Delores James, Coppell, Texas, Kathleen Raba, Sioux Falls, Agnes Sandy and Barbara Raba, both of Selby, and Anna Weber, Maple Grove, Minn.; and a brother, Martin Raba, Selby.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Kirk Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. wake service, and will resume for one hour before services at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek as celebrant. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills

National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Ed Bickel

FIRESTEEL - Ed Bickel, 84, Firesteel, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Hospice House in Rapid City.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. CST Monday, Nov. 9, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge, with an 8 p.m. service of remembrance.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Timber Lake Community Center. Burial will be at Timber Lake Cemetery.

Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Melbourne E. Chastain

BELLE FOURCHE - Melbourne E. Chastain, 59, Belle Fourche, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at home.

Survivors include two sons, Jason Chastain and Wyatt Chastain, both of Denton, Texas; and a brother, Ron Chastain, Belle Fourche.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills.

Cathern Hollenbeck

CARTER - Cathern Hollenbeck, 72, Carter, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. CST Sunday, Nov. 8, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.

Eugene Hunts Horses

WOUNDED KNEE - Eugene Edward Hunts Horses, 67, Wounded Knee, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Wounded Knee.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Young Bear Hunts Horses, Rapid City; nine children, Eugene Hunts Horse Jr., Gilbert Hunts Horse, Meredith Hunts Horse and Glenda Hunts Horse, all of Rapid City, and David Hunts Horse, Jeremy Hunts Horse, Vince Hunts Horse, Clover Hunts Horse-Condon and Lisa Hunts Horse, all of Wounded Knee; and a stepson, Garrett Little Bear Sr., Rapid City.

A two-night wake service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Church of God.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the church, with Stanley Hollow Horn officiating.

Burial will be at Messiah Episcopal Cemetery.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Dana Jo Lasnetske

STURGIS - Dana Jo Allen Lasnetske was born May 15, 1962, in Greeley, Colo., to Donald and Norma (Davis) Allen. She spent summers with her brother David on their grandparents' ranch in Colorado, enjoying many hours with family. She was baptized at Manitou Lake, Colo., with Aunt Mary Ann and Dave Harwood in 1976. Dana graduated from high school in Northfield, Minn., in 1980 and continued learning on her own and taking college courses.

After moving to Sturgis, she married Jim Lasnetske in 1988. During their marriage, they adopted a son Zachary and a daughter Sierra in 1991, after traveling to Romania. Their family was completed with the birth of daughter Shannon in 1995. Being a mother was Dana's greatest desire in life and she enjoyed every minute of it.

Dana volunteered at Believers Fellowship Ministries while her children attended school there. She also worked as an EMT in Sturgis for a while.

Dana passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Sturgis Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

She is survived by her children, Zachary, Sierra and Shannon Lasnetske of Sturgis; her mother, Norma Allen; one brother, David Allen (J.J.) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and their children; her grandfather, Pete Allen of Wray, Colo.; and other family and friends from Beecher Island, Colo.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Believers Fellowship Ministries. Burial will be at a later date in Beecher Island, in the family plot next to her father, as she requested.

A memorial has been established for her children.

Norbert W. Mutchler

SPEARFISH - Norbert Wilfred "Sonny" Mutchler, 95, passed on to join his wife, Wilma, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Spearfish.

He was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Yankton and married Wilma on Feb. 23, 1946. He always said he was the "luckiest man on earth to have met and married" her.

From Yankton, he moved with his family to western South Dakota and ranched first in Elk Creek and later in Box Elder. Norbert worked for Black Hills Oldsmobile Cadillac for many years prior to starting his landscaping business in Rapid City. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in WWII and was involved in four major battles, including the landing at D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He served in Patton's Third Army. Throughout his life, he carried a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary with him at all times and attributed his safety at the Normandy landing to her intercession. He was awarded a Purple Heart for combat injury, four battle stars, and three Overseas Service Bars.

He will be remembered by family and friends for his hard work, his optimism in the face of adversity and his honesty. Family and friends looked to him to share his knack for fixing things, his knowledge and love of the Black Hills, and his sense of humor.

He was involved with Boy Scouts and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW), Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, a Charter Member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Rapid City and a lifelong usher there. The pine trees on the hillside behind the church were planted by Norbert in mid-1950.

He is survived by his sons, Keith (Sherry) Mutchler of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Charles (Joan) Mutchler of Spearfish; his granddaughters, Megan (Jon) Baiardo of Denver, Kelli Mutchler of New Zealand, Katherine Mutchler of Micronesia, and Bronwyn Mutchler of Milwaukee; his grandson, Christopher of Brookings; and his brother, James of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Bruce; his parents, Elmer and Anna (Karolevitz) Mutchler; his grandson, Ian Mutchler; his stepmother, Florence "Tid" Mossefin; and his siblings, William, Bernard, Marion, Raymond, Dorothy, Rachel, and Elizabeth.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills

National Cemetery near Sturgis, next to his wife, Wilma, with military honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in his name has been established to honor Northern Hills Hospice, Blessed Sacrament Church, and a daily prayer guide for active duty soldiers.

Josephine 'Jo' Parker

RAPID CITY - Josephine "Jo" Parker, 84, longtime resident of Rapid City passed away Wednesday evening in Fort Collins, Colo.

Jo was born May 22, 1925, in Hayes, Kan. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a major in Journalism in 1945. It was in Boulder where she met and in 1947 married her late husband, Francis Thomas (Tom) Parker of Deadwood. Following the war Jo and Tom settled in Deadwood and in 1951 moved to Rapid City. Jo worked for the South Dakota Department of Social Services for 11 years as a case worker and supervisor. She was among the founding members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Jo loved to play bridge, travel and socialize with friends. She brought much compassion, love and joy to her many friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom in 2003.

She is survived by their two daughters, Valorie White and her husband Gary of Fort Collins and their three children Jared, Nicholas, and Lauren and Kathleen Ammon and her husband, Arthur of Fountain Hills, Ariz.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Kathy Monson-Lutes officiating. Interment will be at Black Hill National Cemetery near Sturgis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

Richard L. Steele

RAPID CITY - Richard L. Steele, 50, Rapid City, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son went to be with our Lord on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born March 3, 1959 in Grenada, West Indies to Lenny and Carolyn (Reece) Steele. He graduated from Howell High School in Howell Township, N.J. He married Marie Van Sciver on July 25, 1977 in Howell Township. Richard joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduation and spent eight years in duty stations here and abroad.

Richard was an avid motorcyclist and loved to complete woodworking projects. The proudest moments of his life were his marriage and the births of his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife Marie, Steele, Rapid City; his daughter, Anette Williams, Longmont, Colo.; his son, Richard L. Steele Jr., Fredrick, Colo.; his parents, Lenny and Carolyn Steele, Rapid City; six grandchildren, Brittany, Mckenzie, Jordan, Jacob, Cameron and Isaac; and two sisters, Karen (Steele) Humphrey, Erie, Colo., and Michelle (Steele) West, Berthoud, Colo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home, with Father Bill Zandri officiating. Military honors will be provided by the TREA Honor Guard.

Robert G. Stumpf

BELLE FOURCHE - Robert G. Stumpf, 84, Belle Fourche, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care.

Survivors include two children, Linda Harlan, Beulah, Wyo., and Robert Stumpf, Belle Fourche; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter Stumpf, Nisland, and Murphy Stumpf, Chula Vista, Calif.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Crematory Service of Spearfish.

Rose M. Torres

RAPID CITY - Rose M. Torres, 65, Rapid City, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at home.

Survivors include her husband, Andres "Buzz" Torres, Rapid City; three sons, Michael Torres and Andy Torres, both of Rapid City, and Daniel Torres of Grand Island, Neb.; and a daughter, Sarah Torres, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Services at Serenity Springs.

R.J. Werner

GILLETTE, Wyo. - R.J. Werner, 84, Gillette, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

He served in World War II.

Survivors include three children, Ronna Carson, Arvada, and Kathy Wolff and Debra Larson, both of Gillette; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Chris Mitchell, Gillette, and Margaret Honley, Denver.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Gillette Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bill Hill officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 42, will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Campbell County Memorial Hospital Hospice Hospitality House.
