Jacqueline ‘Susie’ Moore

RAPID CITY — Our beloved Jacqueline Susan “Susie” Moore, 53, left us on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. Known by most as “Susie,” she was born April 1, 1956, in Omaha, Neb. to Rosemond Roubideaux and Mervin Moore.

An enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, Va. Upon her marriage she began work for the Bristol Regional Counseling Center, Bristol, Tenn.

She is survived by her four sons, Adam Page, Bristol, Va., and Dustin Page, Jeremy Page and Zack Canter, all of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Taylor, Kalista, Sarah and Emily Page; her mother, Rosemond Goins and stepfather, Lofthis Goins, her aunt, Sharon Brave, and two sisters, Linda Frazier and Michelle Tangimana, all of Rapid City; nieces, Melina and Janaiya Moore and nephews, Daniel and Duane Moore, all of Rapid City. She was a great aunt to seven nieces and nephews. Susie was relative to many and friend to most.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Services at Serenity Springs, Chapel of Tranquility, with Fr. David Matzko, S.J. officiating.

A memorial has been established by the family.

Edna M. Weaver

RAPID CITY — Edna M. Weaver, 83, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Everett Weaver, Rapid City; two sons, James Weaver, Wickenburg, Ariz., and Terry Weaver, Rapid City; her brother, James Henderson, Flandreau; three sisters, Alta Dexter and Georgina Koopman, both of Apple Valley, Minn., and Ida Weaver, Rapid City; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Kirk Funeral Home and one hour before services.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.

Frances Pauline Parks

RAPID CITY — Frances Pauline Parks, 93, Rapid City and formerly of Nisland, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the Clarkson Mountain View Health Care Center.

Frances Pauline Voorhees was born Jan. 9, 1916, near Vale to Fred and Myrtle (Elder) Voorhees. The family ranched and operated a dairy farm in several locations in western South Dakota where Frances was raised with her siblings, Helen, Howard, James, Alice, Ralph and Jessie. Frances attended school in Lawrence County. As a young woman she worked as a clerk in Chase’s Department Store in Sturgis.

On March 2, 1944, Frances wed Robert Irving Parks in Deadwood. Frances joined him on the family farm north of Nisland. The couple resided together on the Parks’ farm for 53 years where they raised their three children and entertained their grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Frances also served on the local election board and enjoyed ceramics, sewing, and knitting.

In 1998, Frances moved to Rapid City to be with her daughter, Rosella. In 2002, Frances moved to an assisted living facility where she resided until her recent move to Clarkson Mountain View.

Frances was a loving mother to LeRoy (Jean) Parks, Nisland, Rosella Perryman, Rapid City, and Dale (Shirley) Parks, Sioux Falls. She was a devoted grandmother to Lori (Ron) Parks-Klinghagen, Pittsburgh, Pa., Kelly Parks, Nisland, Gregory Perryman, Oklahoma, Val (Wayne) Koop, Denver, Brian (Destine) Nelson, Atlanta, Ga., Denise Perryman, Isabel, Darlene (Wade) Weaver, Spearfish, Kristi (Kevin) Smith, Evansville, Ind., Lisa Parks, Sheridan, Wyo., and Michael Parks, Minneapolis. She held a special place in her heart for numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Parks; her brothers and sisters; and an infant son.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the funeral chapel, with Beth Arlene Pierce and Angie Olson officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitewood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Nisland Fire Department.

Eva Mae Linenbrink

MARTIN — Eva Mae Linenbrink, 90, Martin, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Bennett County Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Byron “Butch” Brown, Martin, and Vernon Brown, Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Wake services will be at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bryan Sorensen officiating. Burial will be at Martin Community Cemetery.

Bennett County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Emma H. Baumann

RAPID CITY — Emma H. Baumann, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Richard Baumann, Rapid City; a brother, Reuben Hoffman, Aberdeen; three sisters, Edna Dahlstrom, Hillsboro, N.D., Clara Kost, Ashley, N.D., and Gert Gesinger, Aberdeen; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.

Beatrice J. Boice

SPEARFISH — Beatrice J. Boice, 80, Spearfish, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with the Aldinger Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Geraldine M. Vellek

RAPID CITY — Geraldine May (Silvernail) Vellek, 75, Rapid City and formerly of Tyndall, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Fountain Springs Health Care.

Survivors include her children, Lynne Hoffman, Gig Harbor, Wash., Craig Vellek, Tyndall, Carol Borchard, Black Hawk, and Kelly Krier, Kearney, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

No services are planned. A private family service will be held at a later date.

James K. Lockhart

NEWNAN, Ga. — James K. Lockhart, 58, Newnan, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.

He was the second of eight children born to James W. Lockhart and the late Teena Lockhart of Rapid City, S.D.

Jim was an amazing father and husband. To those who knew him, he brought a sense of humor to any occasion and was incredibly intelligent. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He moved to Newnan in 1983, then owned and operated a business while starting a family. He was known for his problem-solving skills and helping friends in need. He will be forever missed by all his family and friends.

Mr. Lockhart is survived by his wife, Sue, and children, Jace Noteboom, Trevor Lockhart and Chalin Lockhart. He is also survived by his father, James W. and his wife Liz Lockhart, and his siblings, Sandy White Shield, Paula Long Fox, Gemma Lockhart, Kevin Lockhart, Stasia Spurrier, Justin Lockhart, and Tauna Dowling.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. George Catholic Church. A wake will follow at the Lockhart residence. McKoon Funeral Home 770-253-4580

Douglas E. Tinant

PIEDMONT — Douglas E. Tinant, 63, Piedmont, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Tinant, Piedmont; his daughter, Dawn Torres, Florida; his son, Sean Tinant, California; his mother, A.V. “Babe” Tinant, Rapid City; two brothers, Chuck Tinant, Rapid City, and Mark Tinant, Gilbert, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.

Ruth Akers

HETTINGER, N.D. — Ruth Akers, 83, Hettinger, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Western Horizons Care Center.

Survivors include her sister, Ruby Richter, Portales, N.M.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kathleen Dettmann officiating. Burial will follow at the Lodgepole (S.D.) Cemetery.

WINNER — Kenneth “Red” McDowell, 82, Winner, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. CST Friday, Nov. 13, at Mason Funeral Home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. CST Saturday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Stanley Howard

EAGLE BUTTE — Stanley Howard, 57, Eagle Butte and formerly of Wakpala, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in Bismarck, N.D.

An all-night wake will begin with prayer services at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Old Agency. A procession will meet at 5 p.m. at the 4-mile junction.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Wakpala. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery.

Elizabeth August Wilaby

HOT SPRINGS — Elizabeth August Wilaby passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at The Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colo.

Elizabeth was born Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Rapid City, to Allen and Cristina (Bergen) Wilaby of Hot Springs.

Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Allen and Cristina Wilaby, her grandparents, Ron and Loretta Bergen and Loren and Darla Wilaby, all of Hot Springs; aunt, Carrie Bergen of Kadoka; great-uncle, Dennis Wilaby of Rapid City; and numerous other great aunts and great-uncles.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Betty J. Halla

RAPID CITY — Betty J. Halla, 82, Rapid City, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Halla, Rapid City; two sons, Bruce Halla, Ladson, S.C., and Brian Halla, Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Diane Halla, Rapid City; a brother, Curt Ireland, Arizona; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Dorothy ‘Dot’ Madden

BELLE FOURCHE — Dorothy R. “Dot” Madden, 70, Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care.

Dorothy was born Feb. 4, 1939, to Frank and Claudice (Davis) Pearson in Spearfish. She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1957 and attended the University of Wyoming and Black Hills State College. 

She married Francis Madden on Oct. 17, 1965, in Belle Fourche. She was employed at the Bank of Belle Fourche in Belle Fourche and Spearfish and had other banking opportunities in Laramie, Wyo., Mountain Home, Idaho, and Glendive, Mont.

Dorothy was involved in 4-H Clubs for nine years. She was a youth leader at the Congregational Church, a teacher’s aide at Shepherd, Mont., and worked with the Montana Chapter ADA and numerous

diabetes bike-a-thons.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts. She was an avid University of Wyoming Cowboy Fan and enjoyed the trips to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Francis Madden of Belle Fourche; her son, Brian P. (Jennifer) Madden of Rapid City; two granddaughters, Abigail (Abby) Madden and Sheridan Madden; her sister, Margaret (Gordon) Shoemaker of Belle Fourche; her brother, Charles “Chuck” Pearson of Aladdin, Wyo.; and nieces and nephews and special cousins, Grace, Bill and George Whalen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Claudice and her grandparents, Charles and Nancy Pearson and Webster and Rebecca Davis.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Christian Life Center, with the Rev. Paul Howard officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery.

An incorrect time of services was listed in the obituary for Mary Helene Freeland published Wednesday, Nov. 11. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City.
