LEAD - Clarence Leeling passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Rapid City Hospice House.
Clarence was born March 7, 1915, at Node, WY (near Lusk) to Clarence Edward Leeling and Arta C. (Anderson) Leeling. His family moved to the Whitewood area when he was around four years of age. He grew up there and like his father, worked on the Frawley Ranch. He served in the US Calvary from 1941-1945. He was stationed in Burma during WWII. He married Stella (Leni) Caserio Torino of Lead, in Colorado Springs, CO on July 14, 1943 just prior to being shipped overseas.
Upon returning from the service, Clarence worked for several mining companies around the Lead/Deadwood area as an assayer before being hired full time for the Homestake Mining Co. in Lead. He worked there until his retirement in 1980. Clarence and Stella celebrated 65 years of marriage this past year and raised four children while living in Lead.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Stella (Leni) Leeling of Lead; a son, Gerald (Jane) Leeling of Burke, VA; his daughters, Patricia (Frank) Carr of Thornton, CO, and Jeanette (Robert) Fraser of Brandon; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mildred Willson of Whitewood; three brother-in-laws, Clifford (Maxine) Caserio of Lead, John Marinoni of Price, UT, and John LaVoy of Spearfish; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Arta Leeling; three sisters, his twin Clarice Lee, Alice Wanhanen and Lois LaVoy; two brothers, Harold Leeling and Kenneth Leeling; and a stepson and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sandra Torino.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, with a wake service at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, with the Rev. William Zandri as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the Hospice House in Rapid City.

Larry W. Buckman Sr.
PINE RIDGE - Larry W. Buckman Sr., 51, Pine Ridge, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence W. Buckman Jr., Denver, and Elija Buckman, Pine Ridge; five daughters, Helen Buckman, Wendi Buckman, Bette Buckman, Andrea Buckman and Latisha Buckman, all of Pine Ridge; a brother, Oral Buckman, Pine Ridge; and five sisters, Rita Buckman, Jolene Buckman, Vernell Buckman and Buffy White, all of Pine Ridge, and Patty Buckman, Gordon, Neb.
A one-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the hall.
Burial will take place at a later date.

Debra 'Deb' Johnson
BOX ELDER - Deb died in the home where she wanted to be in my arms at 9 on January 18, 2009. She always had a big heart and was a very caring person; she would give you the shirt off her back if she could.
She was a courageous fighter with her illness; she didn't give in to it one bit, she fought it all the way until the bitter end.
Survivors include her husband, Brian Johnson, of Box Elder; two daughters, Nathasa Hise of Killeen, Texas, and Lavonne Wiedener of Sioux Falls; her mother, Lavonne Edrich, of Sioux Falls; a brother, Dwayne Edrich of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Deanna Chapman, of Sioux Falls and Dawn Murray of Watertown; her in-laws, Donald and LaVonne Johnson, of Rapid City; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

MANDERSON - Baby Boy John S. Cedar Face-Steele, 1 month, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, in Denver.
Survivors include his parents, Sammi Cedar Face and Derek Steele, Manderson; a brother, Dejon Steele, Manderson; his maternal grandparents, John and Carmen Cedar Face, Hay Springs, Neb.; and his paternal grandmother, Aldean Steele, Manderson.
A one-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Hall in Manderson. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge, with the Rev. Phil Cooke officiating.

HOT SPRINGS - Lou "Noama" Elliott, 91, Hot Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Elliott, Hot Springs, and Michael Elliott, Mexico; two grandsons; and three granddaughters.

Arthur Floyd Kelly
HILL CITY - Arthur Floyd Kelly, 77, Hill City, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at his home.
Arthur was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Omaha, NE the son of Leonard and Ruth (Stenner) Kelly. He worked for Union Carbide until his retirement in the Houston, TX area. There he was an avid angler in the Gulf waters but decided to move to rural Hill City eighteen years ago. There he continued fishing, reading and expanded his love for singing, becoming a member of the Black Hills Singers. He was in the Dakota Choral Union and performed in "Die Fledermaus" in Rapid City.
Arthur and Fabiola rededicated their marriage in July of 1996 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City. Arthur was a dedicated Mason for 56 years. What friends and family will most fondly remember was what a great host and cook he was when visiting his home known as the Green Parrot Inn.
Surviving are his wife, Fabiola (Gil) Kelly, Hill City, sisters Phyllis (Carl) Ramsey, Omaha, NE and Elaine (Col. Joseph) Adams, Anacortes, WA, daughters, Patricia Kelly and Geraldine Kelly, sons, Michael (Ramona) Kelly, and Sean Kelly, ; grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City with Deacon Pat Coy officiating.

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Lawrence Junior "L.J." Hunter, 82, Gillette, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home.
