Rapid City police say they have a suspect in custody in connection with a homicide that happened early Friday morning on E. Adams Street in Rapid City.
At around 1:20 a.m., police were called to 313 E. Adams St. for a report of a possible intoxicated subject seen lying on the ground behind an apartment building at that address.
Upon arrival, police learned the subject was the victim of an assault. He was then placed in an ambulance but declared dead by medical personnel prior to transport to the hospital.
Nathaniel Tenfingers, 27, of Rapid City was identified as the victim.
After speaking to witnesses on scene, police determined the assault suspect was Joseph Dowty, 27, of Rapid City.
Tenfingers had injures consistent with blunt force trauma but an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, according to police.
As police worked the investigation throughout the morning hours of Jan. 26, Dowty was located at a residence in the 1500 block of Kellogg Place and placed under arrest at approximately 10:30 a.m. in connection with the death of Tenfingers.
