A 20-year-old Rapid City man pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment to raping an 18-year-old.

If convicted, Tanner Spilde would face a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Circuit Judge Robert Gusinsky denied defense attorney John Fitzgerald's request for a trial date by reminding him that he "had to work the file first."

Instead, Fitzgerald scheduled a motions hearing for April 22.

Spilde is free on a $25,000 bond.
