A $25,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association will help the community and school district to prepare for the 2010 South Dakota State High School tennis tournament.
According to a news release from the association, the grant will help pay for projects connected to the Parkview Tennis Complex. The 12-court facility, near the Parkview Pool and Parkview Softball Complex in Rapid City, will host the boys and girls state tennis tournament in 2010.
"The essence of this initiative is to assist communities leverage their tennis facilities to promote lifelong healthy activity and improve their programming by advancing the latest tennis innovations for all program types," Kurt Kamperman, USTA chief executive of community tennis, said in a prepared release.
The grant will help the Rapid City School District and the city complete construction of the tennis courts and associated walkways this spring and summer, as well as the implementation of irrigation and landscaping this fall. The plan also identifies additional parking, lighting, restrooms and associated utilities that will be completed as funding, in addition to the $25,000, becomes available.
The national tennis association provides a variety of resources in the form of Public Facility Funding Grants to groups seeking to renovate existing facilities or build new ones. These resources include advocacy assistance, concept drawings, construction and maintenance, partial funding on approved projects, access to USTA partners within the industry and programming assistance for maximum court use.
