PIERRE | South Dakota's new secretary of state has moved downstairs from her place of 10 years in the Legislature to the office that handles elections, business documents and some permitting.
KCCR-AM reports Shantel Krebs took the oath of office Friday morning so she and her 13-member staff can get ready for the Jan. 13 legislative session.
She defeated three others in the November election to win the seat left open by fellow Republican Jason Gant, who didn't seek re-election.
Krebs was sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson in the Supreme Court chambers using a family Bible held by her husband, Mitch Krebs.
She told those gathered she plans to fulfill her campaign promises to bring honesty and fairness to the office and provide good customer service.
