ALEXANDRIA | A resident of a Hutterite colony in South Dakota has pleaded guilty to felony child abuse for allegedly striking a juvenile male with a belt or something similar.
A judge ordered 61-year-old Jake Wipf, of the Oak Lane colony, to serve 15 days in jail and pay a $2,000 fine. He must also write letters of apology to the victim and the victim's parents.
The Mitchell Daily Republic reports (http://bit.ly/15YSU50) that Wipf told authorities he "strapped" the victim, leaving bruises and welts on his back and buttocks.
Prosecutor Doug Papendick says the incident had "something to do with some disciplinary measures."
